Sustainability is at Our Core
At Montessori Children's House of Denver, sustainability is woven into the fabric of our curriculum and daily life. It flows seamlessly into each child's day through:
- Engaging in practical life works
- Gardening
- Environmental stewardship
- Mindful eating practices
Children share meals, compost food scraps through vermiculture, and add nutrient-rich castings to our gardens. These gardens grow pollinator flowers and fresh produce, which nourish our students and the bees that call MCHD home.
Our busy honey bees reward us with golden honey and beeswax, which the children use to create honey jars, beeswax candles, and soothing salves. These handmade items reflect their hard work and are shared with the community. This sharing is not just a gesture of goodwill, but a way to involve the community in our sustainability efforts, fostering a sense of shared responsibility and interconnectedness.
Goats, Chickens, and More!
Our sustainability practices extend to Dragonfly Farm, where children are not just caring for our goats and chickens, but also learning valuable life lessons. They learn the importance of compassion and responsibility by feeding and nurturing the animals, ensuring they thrive. The chickens offer fresh eggs that support our farm stands, teaching children about the delicate balance of ecosystems.
Sustainability and Mindfulness
MCHD is committed to cultivating eco-consciousness and mindfulness in our students. Children learn to be compassionate global citizens and advocate for a sustainable future by respecting and connecting with nature. Our curriculum instills an enduring sense of stewardship, equipping students with the tools and mindset to lead with care and responsibility in a world that depends on thoughtful action.
