About Our Montessori Lower Elementary Program

Our Montessori lower elementary program marks an exciting transition in your child’s educational journey. In these years, children begin moving from concrete learning toward more abstract thinking, developing reasoning skills that allow them to analyze ideas, ask questions, and explore concepts more deeply. Within our Montessori school, the elementary curriculum introduces children to the interconnected nature of knowledge through Cosmic Education. This approach begins with the story of the universe. It gradually expands to include history, science, geography, and the study of living things, helping children understand their place within the larger world. Our Montessori lower elementary school environment in Denver encourages children to follow their interests while developing responsibility and independence. Students work at their own pace, explore meaningful subjects, and engage in collaborative research that sparks curiosity and strengthens academic confidence.

From 6 to 9: Development Support for Every Stage

Between the ages of six and nine, children experience significant growth in reasoning, imagination, and social awareness. At this stage, children begin developing a deeper understanding of fairness, relationships, and their role within a community. Our Montessori lower elementary program supports these changes by encouraging students to think critically, collaborate with peers, and take increasing responsibility for their learning. Within the learning environment, younger students learn from older children, while older students strengthen their leadership skills by supporting classmates. Students explore topics that inspire them, participate in field trips, and engage in research projects that deepen their understanding of the world around them. These experiences nurture creativity, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.

  • Language Arts - Through reading, writing, storytelling, and advanced grammar work, including sentence analysis, students strengthen their communication skills and develop a deeper appreciation for literature. These lessons expand vocabulary while helping students express ideas clearly and confidently.
  • Mathematics - Hands-on Montessori materials help children grasp complex mathematical concepts, including fractions, multiplication, and geometry. These experiences build strong reasoning abilities while encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Cultural Studies - Through cultural studies, children explore history, geography, anthropology, and civilizations. These lessons help students understand the interconnectedness of cultures and societies across the world.
  • Science Exploration - Students investigate topics such as ecosystems, the laws of nature, and living things. These science lessons encourage observation, experimentation, and curiosity about the natural environment.
  • Practical Life and Responsibility - At the elementary level, practical life lessons expand to include time management, organization, and responsibility for personal work plans. Students learn to manage projects, collaborate with classmates, and contribute positively to their classroom community.

I love that the staff creates such a safe space for both the kids and parents to be themselves. They are all so welcoming and open and extremely knowledgeable in childhood education.
