Camp Connect – Summer Camp Programs
Summer means fun and exploration — and what could be more fun than two full weeks of summer activities that will inspire your child’s special genius? MCHD’s four summer camp programs are designed to keep your child’s mind and body active and growing during summer vacation. The four camp programs stimulate your child’s imagination with a carefully balanced blend of learning and leisure. All camp programs include gardening, nature study, art, music, picnics, water play and fields trips to points of interest. Each day begins with a physical activity that sets the stage for enhanced learning that is tailored to your child’s specific interests. Design a one-of-a kind program by choosing from any or all of our four two-week camp sessions, or sign up for half- or full-day schedules.
Games Camp
Session 1
Your little gamester is sure to revel in the endless opportunities to learn and play games of all kinds, from cards to computers to board games to puzzles and many, many more. Active outdoor games abound, too, including ball games, hide and seek, frisbee, hopscotch — and games that the children make up on the spot. Their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills will work hand in hand to devise new games, establish rules, and then put their new games into play. They’ll love water games on hot days, and if it rains, they’ll have plenty of opportunities for indoor games of their choice. Field trips might include Mr. Biggs, Elitch’s, Boondocks, The Children’s Museum, and Heritage Square.
Sports Camp
Session 2
Your child’s athletic development will get a big boost at our sports camp. Children will dabble in a variety of sports, such as soccer, fencing, baseball, martial arts, golf, geocaching, football, ice skating, swimming, fishing, horseback riding, hiking, archery, boating and more. Local athletes will be invited to demonstrate their sports to the children and tell stories from their experiences. The children will learn sportsmanship and the rules of the various sports presented. Field trips might include Bear Creek Park in Lakewood, Bladium Sports, Skate City, Big Bear Ice Rink, Monkey Business, Coors Field, and other local parks and recreation centers.
Adventure Camp
Session 3
Introduce your child to the many wonders in our own back yard — Colorado. We will explore a variety of local and nearby attractions, some new and some familiar, such as hiking, camping, swimming, geocaching, treasure hunts, and historic and scientific adventures. The children will help research and plan their outings and prepare snacks and beverages for each outing. Field trips might include the Denver Zoo, Art Museum, State Capitol, Bear Creek Park, local parks, urban farms, Union Station, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Planetarium, Garden of the Gods, Pawnee Buttes and Grasslands.
Craft Camp
Session 4
Stimulate your child’s creativity with a wide selection of hands-on activities for every interest, from crafts to dramatic arts to artistic exploration. Children will explore a variety of mediums, such as cooking, gardening, sewing and knitting, and creative pursuits, including jewelry-making, candle and soap making, flower pressing, pottery, mosaics, paper crafts, theatre, chalk art, painting and drawing. Field trips might include a jaunt to Heritage Square, a play at DCPA, Ceramics in the City, Art Garage, Art Museum and art districts in the Denver area.
