Montessori Children’s House of Denver’s Classrooms

Overviews
At the Montessori Children’s House of Denver, the school curriculum is based on the Montessori philosophy and the values and beliefs of the founding members. With a strong focus on values education, peace education, non-violent communication, nature study / gardening, financial and social responsibility as well as academic and social skills, MCHD brings together a balance of all facets of each students’ development to support and educate the whole child.

Mixed Age Groupings
The Montessori Classrooms at MCHD encompass developmental stages spanning from 18 months through 6th grade.

Each classroom functions with a mixed age grouping specially designed to capitalize on and correspond with the natural phases (sensitive periods) of the children’s development. These age groupings are as follows:

Toddlers – 18 months – young 3 year olds.
Preschool – 3-6 years old
Lower Elementary – 6-9 years old
Upper Elementary – 9-12 years old

Mixed age grouping provides a variety of benefits including:

* Preparing children for real life situations in which there is a more diverse age grouping (such as work or social situations).

* Allowing each child to develop at his/her own ability level without social pressure to be at the ability level of a group of same-age peers.

* Providing a wide range of learning materials, preventing limits from being placed on a child’s learning.
